Radiology is an area of medicine that focuses primarily on the diagnosis of disease through the use of imaging methods such as x-ray, Ultrasound, CT, and MRI.
The Radiology Department at Marin General uses state of the art computer technology along with radiation, sound waves, and magnetic resonance to diagnose ailments. The Interventional Radiology Department goes one step further using x-rays to perform non-invasive procedures such as angioplasty for treatment without surgery.
A 64-slice CT scanner was installed in 2007. The scanner is faster and provides vastly improved three dimensional detail.
Radiology Technologists are highly trained, licensed individuals who perform x-rays, CT Scans, MRIs, Ultrasounds, and aid the Radiologists in interventional procedures.
Radiologists are physicians specially trained in interpreting the images produced by the Radiology Technologists. Some Radiologists receive additional training to become an Interventional Radiologist, enabling them to perform procedures that can actually treat the disease rather than only diagnose it.
Radiology technology is always evolving to include even more life saving, less invasive procedures. Marin General Hospital's Radiology Department strives to stay on the cutting edge of technology.
